How Cortiq Actually Works

You're reading this because you want to know if Cortiq is legit before you connect a live account to it. That's the right instinct. This page skips the pitch and walks through what the software actually does, mechanically — and what it deliberately does not do.

The trade cycle in depth

Research → Playbook → Backtest → Live → Review

The same five-stage loop the homepage summarizes, walked through in the detail a skeptic would actually want.

01
Research

The agent pulls D1 down to M15 candles from your MT5 history and runs a structured search for edges — train-only hypotheses, tested out-of-sample, written up in a report you can read. Nothing here touches live capital.

02
Playbook

Findings become explicit, checkable rules: what the setup looks like, where you enter, how you size and manage risk, and what invalidates the trade. Preparation packages, sentiment reads and an instrument profile attach here, so a session starts from real context instead of a blank screen.

03
Backtest

The playbook gets replayed against historical M1 data using the same AI decision cycle it would run live — strictly no-lookahead, with prep and sentiment fed in as-of the candle being tested, not with hindsight. This is where you find out whether the idea has any expectancy before a cent is at risk.

04
Live

The same loop, promoted to real execution. The agent wakes on a candle close, a price level, or a scheduled time, reads the market, and opens, modifies or closes trades on your MT5 account — inside guardrails it cannot override.

05
Review

Every session and backtest writes what it learned back into that instrument's knowledge ledger. Observations only become trusted once enough evidence backs them, live reads count for less than backtested ones, and a strategy's mastery rating rises only once it has been proven in production.

One live cycle, step by step

What happens on a single wake

Wake

Triggered by a candle close, a price level, or a scheduled time, never by constant polling.

Read market

Reads live price, indicators and account state straight from your MetaTrader 5 terminal.

Decide

The AI proposes a decision inside the current playbook's rules — it doesn't invent its own.

Act

Validators check the proposal against every guardrail before anything reaches MT5.

Log

The audit trail records the cycle's full reasoning, decision and outcome.

The part worth being skeptical about is what stops the model from doing something reckless with size. The answer is: not the model. Position size, drawdown limits, per-symbol caps and loss-streak stops are enforced by a separate validator layer that runs on every cycle, outside the model, and the model cannot argue it out of a decision. If a limit is breached, an emergency stop cancels pending orders across every connected account and pauses sessions until the numbers clear. Mutating actions wait behind an approval gate unless a session is explicitly set to run unattended, and you can restrict the agent to specific hours.

What Cortiq is — and isn’t

Five things worth being precise about

Marketing pages hedge. Here is exactly what Cortiq is not, next to what it actually is.

Isn’t a signals service.

Is a full agent — it executes trades inside the rules you set.

Isn’t a black box.

Is inspectable — every decision is logged as plain text, before, during and after.

Isn’t a multi-symbol scanner.

Is depth on one market — research, backtests and decision history all accumulate on a single instrument.

Isn’t a broker.

Is a layer next to your existing MT5 account — it never holds your funds.

Doesn’t guarantee profit.

Makes the failure mode bounded and visible — risk becomes explicit before it reaches your account, not after.

Limitations & tradeoffs

Where this stops being a fit

NoteSingle-instrument focus is a constraint you’re choosing, not a missing feature. If your edge depends on rotating across correlated pairs, this model doesn’t fit.
Watch outYou need an AI provider of your own — OpenRouter usage or a local model setup carries its own cost, separate from buying Cortiq. A managed, Cortiq-run AI option existed at one point; it has been discontinued.
Watch outBacktests are only as honest as the playbook behind them. A badly specified playbook backtests badly — no amount of software rigor rescues a weak strategy.
NoteOrdinary software risk is real: connections drop, AI providers return slow or wrong output, data feeds lag. Run a paper session first, and don’t leave a live session fully unattended until you’ve watched it behave.
